Have you ever heard of: Ego and Attachment?
If you know, understand, and apply these concepts, we believe you will succeed in life. Apart from the explanation from a Buddhist perspective, we will also offer a more accessible explanation from a scientific point of view:
Ego: Ego is the attachment to the "self" or "I," which refers to our own identity. When we have an inflated ego, we are often driven by biases, prejudices, and fixed viewpoints. This is when we are "attached to the ego." For example, if you think you are always right, or if you care too much about how others perceive you, that is a sign of ego attachment. Being too attached to the "self" makes us vulnerable and prevents us from adapting when facing challenges, especially in today’s VUCA world.
Attachment: Attachment is the clinging or fixation on material things, ideas, beliefs, or feelings—whether material or immaterial. It is often understood as attachment to things we consider "ours," such as fame, power, wealth, or beliefs. Attachment is not only the fixation on material possessions but also the clinging to rigid thoughts and viewpoints. When we become too attached to something, we are unable to view things objectively and create suffering for ourselves.
In short, ego attachment is the fixation on the "self," while attachment is the fixation on external things. Both prevent us from living freely and often lead to regret when we cannot let go, making life simpler. People, unable to recognize the impermanence of life, tend to cling more, which increases their risk of suffering. Both ego and attachment are sources of suffering, and true liberation can only be achieved by letting go of both. To live a happier life, we must learn to release these attachments.
We hope that our "think differently, act differently" perspective helps you free yourself from negative energy to regenerate more positive energy.
