Data Modernization for SMBs: Small Steps, Big Impact 15
Last time back in 2023, OpenAI's (ChatGPT) chief Sam Altman visited India, met the Indian prime minister, and discussed the potential of AI to boost the Indian tech ecosystem. The meeting positively impacted the Indian IT industry and led to the setting up of new measures to adopt AI infrastructure. Recently, Sam is about to revisit India after two years to update the talk further with the government.
Well, Sam's visit has been making the headlines of news channels recently. Not only just for technical cooperation with India, but there is a legal cause associated with this visit. OpenAI faces some Indian copyright claims lately, and Sam's visit to India is probably because of that.
India, as a powerhouse of outsourcing services, now comes under question due to Sam's legal visit to India. Tech companies that outsource their needs, be it data entry, data annotation, or any other IT services, are now looking for some insights about this matter. Therefore, this blog is crafted to explain the ground reality of the Indian outsourcing industry and how it still remains the number one choice when it comes to outsourcing IT services.
Let's dig into the matter
India is Powerhouse of Outsourcing Services
When it comes to outsourcing IT services, India is the first choice of the global top-rated companies. Suitable infrastructure, superb talent, and affordability are the main reasons why Indian IT outsourcing companies are gaining popularity. The outsourcing market is flourishing currently with an annual growth rate of 8.31% and is expected to hit $10.9 billion by 2029. This made India a powerhouse in fulfilling IT outsourcing needs.
In the same vein as market growth, the Indian government is adopting favorable laws to encourage more companies to outsource their needs from India. In the domain of outsourcing, global companies are mainly choosing India for the following services to outsource:
- Data entry services
- Data annotation services for machine learning
- Back office works
- Telecommunications & associated fields.
To encourage IT outsourcing to India, the government in time removed certain licensing restrictions for the expansion. As a result, an influx of sharp business growth in the outsourcing service industry has been visible over the years. At present, India is living in the golden age of back-office outsourcing.
AI Adoption Rate is Fast
The Indian audience, with a rate of 30%, is leading the AI adoption statistics. India surpassed the global AI adoption rate, which is 26% on average. It has impacted the outsourcing industry too. Also, it shows how India is learning super fast and adopting the latest technology for business operations.
Indian outsourcing service-providing companies are adopting AI technology to improve the quality of their services and make delivery faster. Looking at the global scenario, the Forbes Advisor Survey highlighted that 64% of businesses expect AI to increase their productivity. Definitely, it reflects businesses want to adopt AI to make their operations super productive. At the same time, the Indian outsourcing industry is providing the right mindset to use AI to help businesses accordingly.
Copyright laws are Favorable
To safeguard intellectual property and prevent its misuse, the Indian government has introduced various laws over time. However, copyright laws tend to favor global companies that outsource services to India. That said, India has yet to establish a comprehensive data protection law for copyright matters. The recent case of ChatGPT allegedly violating copyrights is still unresolved, but it is unlikely to affect existing laws.
Legal Structure to Outsource from India
Following up on a legal procedure to outsource back office data entry or any other services from India is important. It includes tax considerations, foreign policies, contact laws, copyright laws, IP (intellectual property) rights, and other matters. Strict business conduct in India is ensuring global companies safely take advantage of outsourcing to India and foster their business growth and longevity.
To outsource services from India, companies have to follow any of these outsourcing models and consider laws and regulations accordingly.
Project-Specific Model: Based on delivery terms, timing schedules, and pricing models project deliverables are set up under this model. The needs of the customer are determined by some particular contracts.
Time Value Model: Based on hourly rates, customer-specific requirements are obtained under this outsourcing model. This model is ideal for clients who can't commit the exact timeframe of their service needs.
Service Level Agreements (SLAs): Services are being delivered under a certain period of time until the client is satisfied under this model. Contracts are framed based on service availability, hourly needs, accuracy level, etc.
Build Operate Transfer (BOT): A business first gets started and operated by an outsourcing provider, and later on it is transferred to the client. This model is widely popular in India and suits best for clients who want to jump-start a company.
Multi-Supplier Model: Based on various degrees of business requirements, clients under this model hire multiple vendors on outsourcing terms. The vendors communicate among themselves to deliver the services to the client.
How India is Dominating in the Data Entry Outsourcing Field
India has always been there from the beginning, when the outsourcing movement started. Global companies have realized the positive effects of outsourcing to India over the years. With time, the outsourcing companies operating in India have adopted relevant technology and provided the right infrastructure to attract clients. Besides that, some sharp points helped India to dominate the outsourcing field, which are:
- A diverse pool of skilled workforce
- Keep to technological exploration and advantages
- Flexible cooperation
- Cultural compatibility
More than that, the Indian time zone exactly fits the global market requirements. For example, when a company in the US needs evening data entry support, then any Indian company can fit the recruitment there. That is possible because of the complementary time zones.
Final Thoughts
The Indian outsourcing industry is thriving on innovation, as it has grown so much because of technological advancement and adoption. While the global market is preaching the "AI + human" approach now, India has already adopted it many times before. In data entry outsourcing, Indian companies are practicing traditional data entry processes as well as the new approaches, where humans are verifying the work if it is done by AI. This is marking a new path of outsourcing and leading the industry further.
