Odoo Gamification - Perhaps The Most Underrated Feature In Odoo That Has Been Overlooked So Far
Every employee has high expectations for their performance to be rewarded. Who wouldn't want to receive more frequent and greater rewards? Everyone, of course, including me. The only thing that matters is how an organization can evaluate an employee's performance, potential, and capabilities. It is crucial since an employee can leave the company even if they are doing their hardest to accomplish their goals and don't succeed as much as they would like.
Employee performance must be evaluated in a methodical and organized manner. For instance, there are moments when I ponder how the largest militaries in the world, like those of America, China, or India, are run and what standards they use to evaluate their soldiers. You may have observed that soldiers who have the rank of Lieutenant General, Brigadier, or Colonel have particular and important insignia worn on their shoulders and chests.
As you can see, they are wearing several medals on their chests in recognition of their accomplishments to date. These badges are regarded as verified markers of their achievement, aptitude, characteristic, or passion that they have amassed over the course of their careers in a variety of demanding settings. Army management elevates itself to the top position based on the badges they have obtained. Just like that process nowadays traditional companies are moving or I would rather say they have already adopted a new way of employee appraisal and that is GAMIFICATION.
What Is Gamification?
It's the idea of incorporating game mechanics and design principles into non-gaming companies to inspire, engage, and drive individuals to reach their objectives. Do you think that organizations that use gaming strategies can motivate their employees more to reach their goals? Okay, let me tell you about some of my experiences. I don't play games very often, but a few months ago, I saw one of my coworkers using his computer to play the game Age of Empires (AOE). The game immediately struck me as being really impressive. I thus attempted to join the teams during that game. Since I started playing that game, to be honest, I haven't stopped playing strategy games at noon. It has become a habit.
I was delighted about the game every time I played it because it constantly added new badges and power-ups, and I especially liked the competitive aspect of beating my Facebook friends to the top. Every time when I beat the next level or get a new high score, I feel rewarded for accomplishing something or when I beat my best friend with his score, I felt I won the world, despite the fact that I am not going to receive a single coin of money by wasting time into that game. Undoubtedly that game provided me with bite-sized moments of fun that are easy to fit into my busy business life. Ultimately, the game's creators achieved their goal by drawing in an increasing number of players, much like myself and showing different ads.
Let me get back to the original topic. I had a pretty good feeling from playing a game like AOE, which made me want to play more. I reasoned that using the similar game mechanism on my sales team would encourage them to work harder and produce higher-quality sales outcomes. Our internal ERP system now has Odoo Gamification integrated. Using the gamification module in ERP, I have set objectives and challenges for my sales team that are similar to gaming badges. I've started with some of the simplest goals since I know that if they have too much trouble completing them on the first try, they may give up.
We have achieved amazing results after implementing gamification inside the company (including inside Odoo!) for a few weeks. Our sales managers began engaging in a healthy rivalry. With the help of the badges our sales managers have earned for completing various tasks, we were able to identify their weak points and areas of expertise.
Let me give you an example of different goals that I have configured in my Odoo system.
- Convert the Leads into Opportunities for at least 50% leads they got in a month.
- Lost Opportunities less than 5 per month
- At least 17 Opportunities are won which are greater than 80% probability for the first quarter of previous year.
- Time to qualify a lead which is less than a week for a month .
- At least 10 sales of Amazon Odoo Integration App with 90% probability for Europe (in a month).
- At least 5 sales of Ebay Odoo integration module with more than 60% probability for Europe (in a month).
So finally, I have gamified my business with Odoo, and you?
By treating sales like a game, my salespeople were able to maintain focus and increase their numbers every day thanks to the badges they received from hitting targets and successfully completing tasks.
Businesses are realizing the enormous value gamification can bring to their operations, and as a result, it is becoming more and more accepted, successfully applied, and adopted in business contexts. For instance, employees are motivated to give their best work because gamification is competitive, enjoyable, and has built-in positive reinforcement.
I have been working with Odoo for the past seven years, and in all that time, I haven't come across an app with more potential than this one (of course, except for business managers, who are more concerned with actual outcomes than with operations and effort!).
